Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy
These terms apply to everyone who uses Gbambé ("we", "us"). By creating an account, posting a journey or sending a parcel you confirm you have read, understood and agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Gbambé.
1. Membership and accounts
You must be 18 or older and give true, current details (name, sex, date of birth, address, phone and email). One person, one account.
Gbambé is a peer-to-peer platform: it connects people sending parcels with travellers who have spare luggage space. We are not an airline, courier or customs broker, and we do not own the items carried.
Before posting or accepting bookings you must pass identity verification, including a live face check. We may suspend or close accounts that give false information, break these terms or put other members at risk.
Treat other members with respect. Harassment, discrimination, fraud or attempts to take payments off the platform are not allowed.
2. Sender terms
- You confirm every parcel contains only legal, permitted items that match the description, weight and value you give.
- You must not hide items inside other items. The traveller has the right to inspect the parcel and to refuse it.
- You are responsible for any customs duty, taxes or import rules at the destination, and for giving correct receiver details.
- If you choose mail drop-off, you use only the Gbambé drop-off code. You will never be given the traveller's home address.
- Valuables, cash and irreplaceable items are sent at your own risk; pack items safely.
3. Traveller terms
- You must hold a genuine ticket for the flight you post, and upload it truthfully. Your trip only goes live once it is checked.
- You will inspect every parcel before accepting it and will refuse anything that looks prohibited, unsafe or not as described.
- You are personally responsible for what you carry under airline rules and the customs law of every country on your route, and you will declare items when required.
- You will hand the parcel to the named receiver and collect the delivery code. Payment is only released after delivery is confirmed.
- You will not open, use, sell or keep items you carry, and will not ask senders for extra money outside Gbambé.
4. Payments, fees and refunds
Senders pay the agreed price through Gbambé's secure checkout. The money is held safely and only released to the traveller once the receiver's delivery code is entered. Gbambé keeps a 10% service fee from the traveller's share.
If a booking is declined or cancelled before pickup, the sender is refunded. If something goes wrong, raise a dispute from the booking page and our team will review it; we may refund, part-refund or release payment based on the evidence.
Card details are handled by our payment provider and are never stored by Gbambé.
5. Prohibited items
Never send or carry: illegal drugs or controlled substances, weapons or ammunition, explosives, flammable or dangerous goods, counterfeit goods, stolen property, cash or bearer documents in breach of the law, live animals, human remains, pornographic or extremist material, or anything banned by the airline or the origin, transit or destination country.
We cooperate with police, customs and other authorities where the law requires, and may report suspected illegal activity.
6. Liability
Members contract directly with each other for each delivery. To the extent the law allows, Gbambé is not liable for loss, damage, delay or seizure of items, or for the actions of members. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. We may update them; if we make important changes we will tell you in the app, and continuing to use Gbambé means you accept the update.
7. Privacy and data protection (UK GDPR & EU GDPR)
Gbambé is the data controller for your personal data. We follow the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018 and, for members in Ireland and the EU, the EU GDPR.
What we collect: account details (name, sex, date of birth, email, phone, address), identity documents and a live face check, flight tickets, booking, chat and payment records, and basic device and usage data.
Why we use it (lawful basis): to provide the service and your bookings (contract); to verify identity, prevent fraud and meet legal duties (legitimate interests and legal obligation); and to send optional updates only where you have agreed (consent).
How it is stored: on secure, encrypted servers with strict access controls. ID documents and selfies are kept in private storage that only you and authorised Gbambé staff can open. Passwords are never stored in readable form.
What other members see: only your first name, city and rating. Your home address, documents, date of birth and contact details are never shown publicly or to other members.
Sharing: we do not sell your data, publish it online, or use it for advertising profiles or any illegal purpose. We share it only with trusted service providers that help run Gbambé (hosting, payments, email, flight data) under data protection agreements, or with authorities when the law requires.
How long we keep it: while your account is open, and afterwards only as long as needed for legal, tax, fraud-prevention and dispute purposes (usually up to 6 years for financial records). Verification images are deleted when no longer needed.
Your rights: you can ask to access, correct, delete or download your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK or the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.
